Microchipping

I have always in the past tattooed all my dogs and puppies, believing that a visible form of permanent identification being the best deterrent against theft. However, with the last couple of litters, there's always been at least one where the tattoo hasn't come out very clearly. On Ebony one digit is completely missing! So I started looking into the only alternative.... microchipping.

All my dogs and puppies are now microchipped.

The majority of "professional" dog thieves, that is those that steal to order have scanners, and will quickly dump a dog that is microchipped as they will be unable to sell it on. If the dog is not microchipped or tattooed, you may not be able to prove ownership.

What is a microchip?

A tiny, glass, inert capsule the size of a grain of rice containing an identification number linking you to your pet.

How does it work?

If the unthinkable happens and your pet wanders away - a vet, rescue centre or dog warden will use a small hand-held scanner to detect the microchip number. This number is registered with PetLog, the national central database run by the Kennel Club. PetLog will confirm your contact details and you will be reunited with your pet.

Where is the implant site?

Under the skin between the shoulder blades.

How long will it take to implant the microchip?

Just a few moments! In fact, by the time you complete the PetLog registration form your pet will be protected by the latest ID technology.

How long does registration last?

Your pet is registered for life!

Can all scanners read pet-detect?

Pet-detect uses the latest technology from Germany (FDX-B) and can be scanned by all ISO scanners. Perfect for PETS travel.

Travel plans?

If you plan to travel abroad your pet must have a microchip in order to comply with the regulations.
